Design For Good (DFG) Singapore is an initiative by Make The Change (MTC), winner of the commendation award (start-up of the year category), for the Presidential Challenge Social Enterprise Award in 2015.
In 2017, we kickstarted the Design For Good shop, a marketplace bringing artists, designers and communities-in-need into a common space. Back to the heart of all things important, we work to address poverty in the mind, heart and hands. We started this marketplace to help communities-in-need develop their skills into sustainable businesses of their own.
This means that we invite them to come up with designs and products together. We exist to help them stand on their own, and we exit when they can do so. Our first collaboration features the Krafters', a team of 19 amazing individuals from SMILE Village in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Their families used to live in shanties made from sheets of metal surrounded by landfills and made their living by combing through piles of trash.
After being relocated, they learn, practice and develop handicraft skills for financial independence. Every purchase is a step closer to realise their dreams of having a home and land of their own.
