Beats & Bytes was the public festival segment of Social Innovation Festival (SIF) 2018. A ground-up initiative by Leng Kee YEC, SIF was founded on the belief that everyone should have the chance to benefit from social innovation. Comprising of 2 segments, SIF was kickstarted with a weekend-long hackathon tackling challenge statements taken from real-life problems. Following that, on September 9th, Leng Kee Community Centre was transformed into an innovation festival for Beats & Bytes, featuring music performances, workshops, and presentations from hackathon participants.
Fairmarch is proud to have been invited to showcase our platform as one of the social enterprise exhibitors, alongside other budding social enterprises like Hourvillage, Homage, and the Goodblock. We brought along a selection of products from our catalogue to display at our booth, including the Sock Cat, Owl Huggy, and Crochet Keychain. They were a big hit with both children and adults!
For us, the highlight of the event was meeting the guest of honour, Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Desmond Lee. We were able to share with him about our platform and some of our partners, like Threads of Courage, TeddyThotz, and Winlittlebee. We also talked about the growing social enterprise scene in Singapore and the government’s plans to further support its growth. At the end of the day, we also presented the SIF panellists with custom gifts of Paperweight Sock Rabbits and Traditional Cup Coasters.
